There is no single cause of hair loss. The reasons can be plenty. The nature and extent of hair loss can vary from person to person. Gradual thinning of hair and a reduction in hair density marks the onset of hair loss on the scalp. Such symptoms indicate alopecia. Bald spots develop on the scalp region.

The broad categories of reasons for hair loss are:

Natural Reasons:

As you age, baldness occurs like a natural condition. The problem occurs when the rate of occurrence is rapid at a young age. Inactivity of hair follicles results in baldness. They fail to grow hair naturally. The condition is a genetic disorder in many cases. If you have a family history of baldness, then there is a high chance of suffering from it. Such a condition is hereditary. Baldness is passed through generations.

The hair growth pattern in both males and females is impacted by puberty. The significant hormonal changes trigger the growth. Keep in mind the fact that an imbalance in hormonal level lead to disruption in hair growth, too. For example, menopause can cause baldness in females.

Health practices / medical conditions:
Indiscipline in eating practices means your body doesn’t receive the required dosage of essential nutrients. It can lead to baldness.Health of naturally growing hair depends on nutrients such as proteins, vitamins and iron. Deficiency of such nutrients in diet causes hair thinning. The hair becomes brittle. On the other hand, when you consume animal fat excessively, rate of hair loss can increase. Also, remember that lack of adequate physical exercises in daily routine is another crucial reason affecting quality of hair follicles, leading to hair loss.

There are cases in which hair loss may occur due to a health ailment. High blood sugar or cardiac problems can negatively impact hair growth on scalp. It has been observed several times that certain medications stunt the natural growth of hair, too. Specific chemicals present in the medicines can aggravate the problem of hair loss. For example, contraceptive pills are said to cause baldness by reducing the natural health of hair.

Cancer treatment procedures are other causes of baldness. The Radiotherapy technique has a negative impact on hair follicles. It causes baldness either temporarily or permanently. Another serious medical condition resulting in baldness is the issue of Thyroid. For females, hair loss occurs in the post-pregnancy phase. This is the phase when the estrogen level in the body markedly varies. The result is severe thinning of hair, leading to hairfall.

External Reasons
There are some external reasons, too, causing baldness. For example, water and air pollution are major factors to diminish the quality of hair. There is a direct negative impact on the health of hair follicles. Even over-exposure to ultra-violet (UV) rays of Sun can cause hair loss. As a result, there is rapid occurrence of bald spots on the scalp. The natural growth rate of hair gets affected.
